Tremear, St Tudy, Cornwall
« on: Monday 13 June 22 09:45 BST (UK) »
I've fruitlessly being trying to trace a Vane Erskine Portal who in the 1920s/1930s was apparently writing books as V E Bannister. 'Who was who in literature 1906-34' says the said author was born 1893 and lived at the above address. Is it possible to check electoral rolls etc. of the time for the address - Tremear does not appear on 1939 Register for anyone living St Tudy as far as I can tell.

Thanks
John

That site is in error, as a search of library catalogues on Copac produces more titles.

Have now found a house called Tremer at St Tudy on the Register. Could be interesting as the residents are 3 elderly sisters plus staff. They have a gardener William H Seatherton whose wife Alice was born 1893. and a couple of other St Tudy residents born 1893, Register does not appear to give a full address for them saying they live St Tudy in the address line.

Suppose its possible Portal was the name of a visitor who came from foreign parts.
