War Diaries, November 1914 - 2nd Bn, Leicestershire Regiment
« on: Tuesday 14 June 22 11:06 BST (UK) »
I seem to be something of a numpty in searching Ancestry for War Diaries and have failed to find the ones for the 2nd Bn, The Leicestershire Regiment.  They landed in France in mid-November (from previous service in India), and I'm interested in the dates around 24 November 1914 if anyone can send me the the link to the relevant pages I'd be extremely grateful.

Many thanks
STG

Quite an interesting read as this is when the war became static with
both sides frantically digging & extending trenches.
They were also making them deeper because of sniping, prior to this trenches were
just deep ditches but now they had loopholes which meant men could fire without
putting their heads above the parapet.
Well I found it interesting anyway.
So what's the fascination with the 24th.

The date of a particular soldier's death and his family are interested in the circumstances.  As an enlisted man, he's not named, of course, but at least it tells them where they were and what was going on that day.

Thanks again.

Just to finish off this is a 1914 map for Oct./Nov. 1914 (battle of Le Bassee).
In Green are the German lines & British red.
Your man was along the highlighted part of the trench.
