Sarah Eland b circa 1819 in Penrith
« on: Friday 17 June 22 12:21 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find more info about the above person who is my partner's 2 x great grandmother.

At some point between 1838 & 1846 she marries William Head but I've not managed to find an official registration of this.

I have her in the 1851 census where she lists her age as 34 and birth place as Penrith then in 1871 her age is 50 and she's a widow living in Preston. Mary is still with her.

Her three children are:

Margaret Eland B Oct 1838
Elizabeth Head b Oct 1846
Mary Head b Jun 1851

The only possible baptism I've found for a Sarah Eland is at Hesket in the Forest 2nd Jan 1820 but I have nothing else to verify this connection. However, if it is correct then she was illegitimate and her mother was also called Sarah.

Most interestingly, my partner has several DNA matches on Ancestry that link back to an Isaac Eland b 1750 in Dacre so anything that might link Sarah with Isaac would be fantastic!

TIA,
Richard.

Hi

A baptism for a Sally Ealand 6.6.1813 d of Joseph and Mary nee Snaith at Penrith looks like her.
Joseph is the son of Isaac and Elizabeth bapt 6.4.1780 at Dacre so the man with the Dna.
The Isaac on the 1841 census is her older brother bapt 11.10.1803 at Penrith.
Joseph and Mary married at St Andrews Penrith 25.5.1801 21 and  25

Thanks both of you. All your info is very useful and seems to match well with the DNA matches that I'm trying to unite.

Richard
