Most detail will be within the back case. A photo of the back of the watch, opened up and showing the mechanism, would be useful.

They are often engraved with the makers name and address and an individual number for the watch inside on the mechanism.

Eg. https://www.dominicwinter.co.uk/Auction/Lot/147-pocket-watch-an-18th-century-pair-case-watch-by-john-downes-london/?lot=362194

(John Downes probably being an ancestor of a friend whose tree I have been working on).

Sometimes/often?  the cases are made by one person, and the mechanisms by someone else. I feel there was a thread about this a while ago.

So can you open it right up?

Its obviously brass and in very poor condition, note the soldered repair to the hinge area.   The screw heads have been forced using wrong size screen driver.  Its a mass produced watch note watch, the  stamped out mechanism.  Possibly the type of watch produced for the military although if that's the case its doubtful that the rear of the case is the original. I think the mechanism is called a 'pin pallet escapement' which was introduced for mass production of watches etc.
