When one of my ancestors married in 1761, both parties were minors, and the register says - married by banns with consent of parents.
Conversely, when my gt-grandfather married in Ireland in 1870 his bride was stated to be a 'minor', but convincing evidence suggests she was in fact 24.  It confused me for many years. Perhaps she looked younger ...  ;)

... and now it has been suggested that there may have been a clerical :o error, as the next entry in the register also says 'minor'.
