John Greenwood - 3rd Cheshires Military record 1880s
« on: Thursday 23 June 22 15:51 BST (UK) »
Hi - I've come across a couple of mentions of military records for John Greenwood b.1871 Chester.  Please could anyone let me know if there are any more details on this, please?  I've got all the census and parish records for John (mother Ann on birth cert., but brought up by what i assume are his aunt and uncle John and Mary), so this would be interesting if it is him.  Thanks in advance.

There is a John Greenwood born Chester, who initially enlisted in the Militia in Jan 1889 aged 18 years and 5 months.
He was then called up for permanent duties, seemingly with the Cheshire Regiment. He was discharged on 22/1/1903.

Service number - 1911.
No information on address or next of kin.
This is from Find My Past - I haven't checked Ancestry. There should be a record in the National Archives WO96.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

He's on the Boer War medal rolls: KSA 1901 and 1902, clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal.  Served in 2nd Battalion, Cheshire Regiment.
