Creed Marriage and baptism of bride?
« on: Tuesday 28 June 22 23:04 BST (UK) »
Good morning.
Pulling my hair out trying to find a baptism for Elizabeth Nankivell. She married Nicholas HARVEY 26 Sep 1681 in Creed.
A daughter Ann,
Name   Ann Harvey
Sex   Female
Christening Date   10 Jul 1682
Christening Place   Creed, Cornwall, England
Father's Name   Nicholas Harvey
Father's Sex   Male
Mother's Name   Elizabeth
Mother's Sex   Female
Event Type   Christening

married Sebastian TREWARTHA, in Creed in  1708.
Trewartha and Nankivell are 2 sides of my family, so I need to slot Elizabeth into the wider Nankivell family.'
Any help appreciated,  thanks
Trewartha

you can search the baptism register via FamilySearch, some of it is very faded and damaged.

I can see a baptism 17 November(?) 1662 for John son of John Nankivill but haven't spotted Elizabeth. She could be under one of the stains.

Thanks
That Creed register is in a shocking state? no matter how I manipulate it, it is still mostly unreadable.
Looks like it will be a 'best guess', even though it still would not be much help, as no mother listed.
Thanks Again

There is a transcription of a baptism for an Elizabeth Nankevell, on 28 Aug 1611 at Creed, father Petter Nankevell, so maybe the spelling changed for this family. I know this is too early for your Elizabeth but just to show what spellings it can be.

That one I have, it  was Peter and Rosemund Hawke, married in 1696.
As a 'best guess' it was their  son John who with a 'Jane' were Elizabeth's parents.
Sadly  no paper confrmation.
I don't know the County well, what is the closest parish that they might use?

I've seen worse registers that aren't as old.  ::)

If you check Genuki, the map shows surrounding parishes

https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/CON/Creed

St Stephen in Brannel
St Ewe
Cuby
Probus

The archives have the Bts which may be in better condition as they won't have been in a possibly damp church. They charge for research if you can't get there.

You could ask the opc if he has the Bts or if his copy of the register is more legible.

https://www.opc-cornwall.org/Par_new/a_d/creed.php

There aren't any Nankivell or variant wills in the index for Creed.
