Searching for grave - Eliza Corder (née Ward)
« on: Monday 04 July 22 20:55 BST (UK) »
Hi!

I'm trying to find the parents of Eliza Corder (born Eliza Ward.) I can't pinpoint an exact birth record for her, there are a few options, so I am hoping her parents are listed on her grave stone to help me be sure.

So far this is the information I have:
Born: 1811/1812 (According to the 1881 census, she was born in Whatfield)
Married: Henry Corder in 1833 in Hadleigh, Suffolk. Witnessed by William Frost and Maria Ward, no relationship listed though.
1881: Living on Bridge Street in Hadleigh
Died: 1883
Buried: 15Th August 1883 at St Mary's in Hadleigh. (According to the National Burial Index)

The problem is she is not buried at St Mary's in Hadleigh, burials stopped there in the 1850's and they doubled checked the records to be sure and she is definitely not there. She is also not buried at the council cemetery in Hadleigh. I've contacted other nearby St Mary's  but she isn't buried at any of the ones I've heard back from.

Any suggestions on where to look next?

I've also not been able to find the grave for her husband or children.

Thanks!

Hello and Welcome to the Forum
A few possible clues

1841 census Hadleigh living next to Henry Corder and your Eliza. inPoverty square
William Frost 30  Ag lab Suffolk
Mary 30
James 10
Ann Ward 70 Suffolk

Earlier in the street
Samuel Ward 40 ag lab y
Mary 40
William 15
Henry 14
George 10
Caroline 8
Eliza 5
Marian 2
The couple married at Whatfield 11.8.1824 Bride Mary Ottiwell
He gives his birthplace in 1851 as Hadleigh and there is a baptism at Hadleigh
Samuel s of James and Anne Ward 2.6.1800
Possible sibling Anne 28.7.1802

Ann died 18.7.1844 age 73 at Hadleigh

Maria seems to have married a Edward Steward 27.7.1834 .The 1851 census gives her birthplace as Semer Suffolk and 1815 .She had a son Walter 1833 at Semer before her marriage. The baptism is 22.5.1833.

No sign of Maria baptisd at Semer but there are two children for James and Ann
Eliza 13.2.1814
Sarah 27.8.1816

And a child for Samuel and Mary - Caroline 5.4.1833

I think James and Ann are Eliza's parents.
They married at Hadleigh 22.9.1799
James Ward and Ann Ramplin
Ann Ramplin bapt Hadleigh 29.3.1773 d of Richard and Ann
Fits for the Ann on the 1841 census and buril 1844.
possible James Ward also at Hadleigh 21.3.1773 s of Thomas and Sarah

Christening of George Scott Ward 11.6.1820 at Whatfield s of Ann could be Eliza'a nephew
He died 9.8.1821
Followed by Ann's marriage to James Buckleder in 12.10.1824
Mary Ward to William Frost 14.1.1827 at Whatfield is the next dorr neighbour 1841 and could be another sister .The census gives a birth Semer 1811.
I can't spot a baptism but it all fits.

So James and Ann both born 1773 married 1799
Children Samuel 1800,Ann 1802 ,Mary 1811, Eliza 1814 ,Maria 1815 and Sarah 1816

What do you think ?
