Query about Military records at Kew
« on: Wednesday 13 July 22 17:58 BST (UK) »
I have found a record on FindMyPast for a John Chambers who served as a gunner in the Royal Horse Artillery and was discharged in 1814. Parish of birth was Ardstraw, Co Tyrone.

The Archive Reference at Kew is WO 97 Box 1219 record no 40.

Is there likely to be any additional information in the NAS records at Kew, or will Box 1219 just contain the original of the on-line discharge certificate.

Any other avenues for obtaining information on this soldier’s time in the army?

Reference:    WO 97/1219/39  (Note, not 40,  that refers to Joseph Chambers Born Lisburn, Antrim Served in Royal Horse Artillery Discharged aged 27 )

Description:

JOHN CHAMBERS

Born ASKAW, Tyrone

Served in Royal Horse Artillery

Discharged aged 27
Date:    1805-1814

This record is on FindMyPast, so if you already have his service record from FindMyPast, the National Archives won't have any additional information.

Yes. You can go through the muster books and paylists in WO 10 for the dates he was serving.

https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r/1?_aq=horse&_cr=WO%2010&_dss=range&_sd=1805&_ed=1814&_srt=3&_st=adv
(2 pp. of results)

They are not online. It has to be done in person at Kew.
