Nice photo!  I have no ancestral connections to North Carolina, I'm afraid, or to anyone named McDonald.  But, welcome to RootsChat.  You'll find lots of helpful people here.

Amber, I think some dates and relationships to go with the names might be useful.  :)

With those names it sounds like the search might eventually lead you to Scotland. Possibly Ireland.

Crackin pic of the Clan, I wouldn't worry about the McDonald spelling, it varied from time & place and who was writing it down ;D

Their religion might be a help in finding their McDonald origin?

Best Wishes,
Skoosh.

I should probably explain myself a little better. My grandmother asked me to help her look into her ancestry. Her father was a McDonald from Moore County, NC. She knew little to nothing about him.  Once I began researching, I become addicted. It's so interesting! I've probably read and researched hundreds of hours about the McDonald's and the clansmen that migrated to NC. The issue I've stumbled upon however, is the fact that so many of the males share the same names, husbands remarried a few times, continued having children, and used the same name. So finding out direct lineage has been a hassle. I'll get DNA results back in 2-4 weeks and hoping that'll help. I'm just curious to see if anyone might have known this set of McDonald's. The information I've gathered has been from ancesrty, familysearch, wikitree, archives from my local and surrounding towns, etc. Then I stumbled across this site a few days ago.

My great grandmother was Beulah "McDonald" Ledwell- April 1912-Sept 1992, Hamlet NC
Her father was Colon(Colin) Bethune McDonald- Aug 1892-Feb1935, Moore NC
His father was John Alexander McDonald- May 1850-Jan 1931, Moore NC
His father is believed to have been Daniel McDonald- 1805-Feb 1880 Born in Scotland? Died in Moore County NC
His father is believed to have been Alexander McDonald- 1777-1860 Born in Scotland. Died in Moore County NC
His father is believed to have been James C McDonald B:1720-1740 in Porterie, Isle of Skye, Scotland. Died in Richmond County NC-1788

There is a Church in Moore County, NC, "McDonalds Chapel Presbyterian Church" where some of these men are buried. From my understanding, the family founded the church.
MacDonald-McDonald (Moore & Richmond County NC)
Murphy (South Carolina & Wolf Pit-Cordova NC)
Canady (Bug Hill, Columbus & Brunswick NC)
