The TINKLIN family
« on: Wednesday 20 July 22 09:51 BST (UK) »
I've traced this family back to Samuel b 1814 Clevedon according to 1851/1861 censuses living in Kenn with wife Eliza and son Edward. I'm trying to establish who his parents were and further back if possible.

As I'm from Yorkshire I'm not familiar with the region so it's hard to establish possible links.

I'd be grateful for any information

many thanks

Jenny

1841 957/4/2
Sam ‘Tickler’ 25 yrs
Eliza 20yrs
Edward 1 yr

Over the page

1841 967 /4/3

Thomas Tinklin 60 yrs (transcribed as Marna on one site)
Elizabeth 60yrs
Thomas ? 3yrs (name not very clear) I think it should be Charles

Looks very favourable as Charles is with Samuel in 1851

There are other Tinklin (with variations) in Kenn

Thanks for your speedy response! It's been difficult tracing the family as the surname has been transcribed in different ways.

I hope I can get further back now.

I notice on the 1871 census Samuel is a widower.

Samuel is not on the 1881 census at Kenn but two of his brothers are, Peter & Thomas.

Hi, The 1841 census entry sent by Heywood on page 3 of the return for Kenn is correct, as it is "Chal " age 3 with Thomas and Elizabeth.

All children from Charles 1837onwards to John 1855 are registered in Bedminster which is the district which covers Kenn with mother's maiden name Wilson.

I noticed a  Thomas Tinklin on the same page as Samuel in the1861 census also born Clevedon, who is possibly a younger brother.

Thanks for this. I think I've found a marriage for Thomas and Elizabeth WARE in 1804 at St John The Baptist Bedminster. Can't believe I'm making progress now.
