Morris Family. Norton St Andrew, Suffolk
« on: Sunday 24 July 22 08:50 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me decipher the first name of the 2 year old son of Edward Morris, a miller in the village of Norton, Suffolk, as shown on the 1871 census. Ancestry has transcribed it as Claborn, but I don't think this is right as no births, deaths etc for this name. Frustrating, as I can't find any info about the father or his wife either!

Thanks  Ili1133 Have found him on Free BMD. Middle name different on birth and death record! Wyard or Ward. I think everyone fooled by the initial letter as transcribed.

Thanks Rosie for the mother's surname. It will help me with my research. As Norton's recorder for Suffolk Local History Council, I am trying to produce a village database from 1841 to 1939 with all available info from Tithe Apportionment, Directories Census info etc.

Hi Hookleg,

My turn to return a favour!  I hope this helps.

Edward Morris was a miller probably working for T. S. Gissing at Norton Mills (a wind and steam combo).  He was there is 1861 until 1871 when my trail for him runs out.

Not much, I'm afraid, but at least it shows he was in Norton ten years earlier.

ref is B&NP 1861/09/17
