Mary Ann Smith, wife of James Jacob.
« on: Monday 25 July 22 20:27 BST (UK) »
Im trying to find out more about my 4xgreat gran Mary Ann Jacob. She was born Mary Ann Smith, and married James Jacob in Selling, near Faversham on 15th April 1826.They are on the 1841 in Faversham, with her birth shown c1806,but with it being the 1841,no birthplace shown.I know she was admitted to Barming Heath Asylum around 1845,and remained there till her death, which was registered in Maidstone,in 1866.
Does anyone know, would the actual marriage document show her and James father, and is there any way of viewing one registered in 1826?If not,and given shes a Smith born place unknown,i cant think of any other way of getting back further with her.If anyones got any suggestions,id be very grateful.
Many thanks.

witnesses John Sutton & Edward Grigg, Edward witnessed all three weddings on the page so maybe an official. John Sutton witnessed one other on previous page.
In case it is of interest, James Jacob witnessed the marriage of George Booth, widower & Elizabeth Smith widow on 16th January 1825.  Both of Selling.

Have you seen The National Archives information which says which records survive. May be worth a try to see if they have a record of Mary Ann

There is only one Mary Smith baptised at Selling in your time frame Daughter of Richard and Martha on 13 Sept 1807.
Assuming is dangerous but looks pretty feasible she is your Mary Ann.

Is there any chance that Elizabeth could have been the widow of Nicholas Smith?

No appropriate death of Elizabeth there?

More on that marriage!
Nicholas Smith, of the Parish of Alkham, a Bachelor
+
Elizabeth Lamper, of this Parish, a Spinster

Both marked. Marriage was by Licence.
I won't attempt the names of the witnesses, but one was a regular, the other one was called William.

The three post 1812 baptisms in Stelling to Nicholas and Elizabeth Smith have Nicholas as a Labourer.

Extremely disappointing.
