drummond hall barns, kinclaven
« on: Tuesday 26 July 22 14:18 BST (UK) »
the 1911 scotland census shows my granny age 1 at this address with her parents, two sisters and half a dozen other people.  they appear to be unrelated, and my great gran is down as a pedlar.  my problem is my grans death certificate gives a date of birth but i have been unable to find anything at all on scotlands people.  is it likely that a birth would be unrecorded in 1909/1910 in scotland?

It does look like the birth was unrecorded however the siblings were born on different parts of Scotland and as her mother was a peddler the family maybe moved around a lot and didn't register any of the siblings  :-\

that was my thoughts as well, my granny couldnt read or write, her sisters as you say were born in different parts of scotland and the family did seem to move location regularly.  i have tried using the fathers surname and various surnames the mother claimed to have, also just a christian name search for the whole of scotland.   i really did think it was a legal requirement to register births in 1909/1910 though.  strangely the name kay means something to me!!

They  may not have realised that it was a legal requirement and as they moved often who would be aware.   Nice to know Kay  means something to you :)

the parents of my gran were frederick good (coach painter) and elizabeth simpson (pedlar), two older siblings born in aberdeen and alva.  the odd thing is that my grans death certificate gives an exact date of birth, although i suppose that might just be a guesstimate. and the drummond hall barns sounds like some sort of hostel.  the two older sisters i have the birth certificates from scotlands people so it is odd that i cannot find one for my gran

1911 census says she was born in Greenock. Only 1 Rosa reg'd in Greenock, 1909. Rosa Catherine Webber. No Rosa Webber on 1911 census or any death for her.

Added. Not her, Rosa Webber is in Ireland in 1911

...and the drummond hall barns sounds like some sort of hostel.

I think it might have been the barn on a farm.

See here www.oldscottish.com/kinclaven-1911-census.html  It mentions:

Drummond Hall Barn: Goode (5), Mcguire (1), Mcintosh (4), Norman (1), Watson (1)
Drummond Hall Bothy: Culbert (1), Forsyth (1), Sutherland (1)
Drummond Hall Cottage: Buchan (4), Gilmour (2)
Drummond Hall Farm: Campbell (1), Dow (5), Garvie (1), Ireland (1)
