Rosenthal family
« on: Tuesday 26 July 22 15:53 BST (UK) »
Hi all.
I'm looking for help on the Rosenthal family. They immigrated from Poland in the mid 1860's, the only record I have of them is the 1871 census.
Selig Rosenthal born 1819 in Posen, Poland, married Therisa Lishe born 1821 some time in the 1840's.
They had 7 kids, Simon born 1848, Levi born 1851, Maurice born 1853, Louis born 1856, Jacob born 1860, died 1918, Louisa born 1861, and Sarah born 1868. Sarah was born in England, all of the other kids were born in Poland.
I can find no info on this family, except from Jacob who is my ancestor. According to his marriage certificate, Seligs anglicised his name to Samuel.

Think Simon may have married in Leeds 1877 - see www.freebmd.org.uk. Many Jewish people married in the Synagogue in Leeds

Can you tell us how you are connected to the family?  Is one of their children your ancestor?

Hull and Eastern Counties Herald 28 September 1871

Lengthy article briefly mentioning Seleg Rosenthal, dealer in clothes residing Fawcett Street.  Other mentions around the same time

I don't know if there is anything on the above page that will help you. Have you found any of the children in any UK census other than 1871, or your direct ancestor?

I did see a TV program a while ago (could have been about Maureen Lipman) that mentions the Hull Jewish arrivals often moved on elsewhere eg across to Liverpool and then onto the USA.

I found Jacob in 1881 as a boarder, then in '91, '01, '11 with his family. I also have a marriage certificate for Louisa Rosenthal who married Alic Mathois in 1880.

Lewis Rosenthal married Mary Seman in 1873

1891 3941 / 147

Louis and Ada M Rosenthall have several children.
I believe Ada M is Mary.
