Trying to find a marriage
« on: Friday 29 July 22 10:08 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for a marriage for Frederick Green & Catherine

The 1871 census shows
Frederick Green, 22, born Cottingham, Yorkshire
wife Catherine, 26, born Offchurch, Norfolk
son John Wm, 1, born Cottingham, Yorkshire
daughter Margaret, 4 months, born Cottingham, Yorkshire

The Cottingham baptisms records for the children give both parents names, an earlier child, Tom, was born and died in July 1868 aged 2 weeks.

GRO birth record show King as the mother's maiden name.

Frederick & Catherine both died before the 1881 census.

Also a query on Catherine's place of birth, Offchurch is Warwickshire, not in Norfolk.

Thanks for reading.

1861 census has a Catherine King b abt 1845 in Offchurch Warks. She and what looks like 3 siblings are daughter / sons in law of John Knight. Given they are children and single " in law" is used for step children. John Knight's wife is Sarah, so presumably she is their birth mother.
Is there a marriage for a Frederick Green with a Catherine Knight - she might have used her step father's name.

Catherine was baptised on 28 Jul 1844 in Offchurch d/o Caesar Augustus and Sarah King.
Maybe she never married Frederick. He would be under age when first child was born. maybe his parents objected to them marrying

Thank you both for your replies.

I'm also of the opinion that they never married, though that isn't uncommon with this family, I'm just trying to fill in gaps.

Catherine does appear to another child well after Frederick's death, though again that's not uncommon. ::)
