Do you have details of his baptism in Worting?
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

 I have no parental names as yet.  Alfred comes from a large Knight family , main from Dean  he has been a brick wall for some time and now a DNA match has shown him again.   I would go to the records office myself  but illness stops that at the mo. Thankyou again everyone x

How do you know he was born in January 1886 and baptised at Worting (as per original post)?

Looks like the one born in Basingstoke signed up with 1st Hants Volunteers in 1904. Usual address is Whitchurch, next of kin, father, James Knight.

the age of 18 yr 5 months in July 1904 fits well with dob given in 1939.
