Hill-Osbaston

James Hill (Born abt.1772) Married Elizabeth (Born abt.1769), Both born Osbaston according to census returns. I can't find her name. Their son also james hill married a woman called elizabeth hill which confuses things.

Their headstone at cadeby. :- https://imgur.com/gallery/UyFNVQY

I have every faith.
Leicestershire: Inglesant. Ryder. Rider. Walford. Massey. Daykin/Daikin. Newbold/Newball. Hammonds.

There is a tree on FS which gives the James 1771-1825, married to Elizabeth Judkins, 1775-1853 in 1794, Uppingham, Rutland. Their son, also James, 1795-? married to Elizabeth Hill, 1795-? in 1815, Cadeby.

There was also a marriage between James Hill, a widower, and Elizabeth ward, in Mancetter on 24 Sept 1793.

Mancetter is in Warwickshire but on the leicestershire border, and 9 miles from Cadeby.

Btw, I can see James (snr) on the 1841 census but not Elizabeth, and neither of them on the 1851, so how do you know they were both from osbaston?

Ah, just looked at the gravestone. I see Elizabeth died in 1832 so that census info is not available. I see that James was described as “late of Osbaston” but I’d take that to mean his abode and not necessarily his place of birth. (I think that Osbaston is included in the parish of Cadeby, hence its inclusion in the Cadeby census, and the church serving both villages). And the burial register gives his abode as "Osbaston, parish of cadeby".

I can’t see any likely Osbaston baptisms for James.

Just found the Twycross marraige and that says that james was OTP of "Barleystone" -- presumably Barlestone, which is v close to Osbaston.

Francis and Ann Hill were having children in Barlestone in the 1750-1770 decades. No James is listed, but there is an illegible entry for a son (I think) baptised to this couple on 13 Sept 1767. Maybe if you could see the microfiche at Wigston, it might be clearer; or maybe someone here can tweak the image onscreen?

Hi Derek

I have the Parish Registers for Twycross (1585-1910) should you want me to look up any information. I also live near Cadeby, so can visit the churchyard if need be.

Thanks
