Watson sisters
« on: Tuesday 02 August 22 04:08 BST (UK) »
Hi all, looking for a bit of assistance in tracing 2 sisters who moved from Lanarkshire,Scotland to New Zealand. The sisters are Isabella Watson born 1893 and Annie (Rosanna) Watson born 1888. I have passenger lists for them going to and leaving NZ multiple times on trips. They appear to be shopkeepers in NZ. Even using Electoral Rolls, I cannot pin them down 100%.I do not believe either ever married. I am looking to find where they lived and when they died. Any help would be much appreciated.

What are the details of the last passenger list you have?
Do none of the passenger lists have an address?

WATSON family on above thread (with link to associated thread) appears to be family of WATSON sisters mentioned here.

"Passenger lists - multiple"  ???   to and from NZ ...   I couldn't find them  ::)

" They appear to be shopkeepers in New Zealand "   ???
Q.   Where does that info come from ... off the passenger lists ??

Hi greeneyedgirl

Obviously unable to assist further at present owing to the skimpy information you have given us so far.

Is the following > No. 1396 > Annie WATSON > passenger to NZ  - 1923 -  per vessel  "Athenic" - aged 34 years - occupation "shopkeeper" ... the person you found / or the person you are looking for ???
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6133-4S?i=13&cc=1609792

How do you know that Rose Ann WATSON used the name "Annie"  ??
Just asking because quite often a person's "proper" name will be what appears on a New Zealand electoral roll (and possibly also on other formal documents).

From another source ... actual passenger list >

"Athenic" - departed Southampton 31 May 1923 - for New Zealand ports.

Passenger :
WATSON - Annie - 34 years - single - occ:  Shop Assistant
Address :  116 Mankinfaulder [sic]  Road, Tolcross [sic]

The NZ Immigration passenger list I gave in previous post, indicated that this passenger (WATSON) was to disembark at Auckland.

The "Athenic" seems to have arrived initially at (Port of) Wellington ... and proceeded to Auckland the following day.   The details in newspapers are a bit ambiguous about whether all passengers / immigrants,  (some 400 or so) were landed at Wellington.     Not easy to find where this Annie  WATSON may have settled in NZ.

William WATSON  :

Abbreviated transcript:
( ancestry.com has) > William WATSON, Tallow Merchant ... resident at Williamwood, Easterhill Street, Tollcross - died 25 January 1908 ... Intestate :   Executrix :  Elizabeth GILMOUR or WATSON ...

Have just added this info because it shows parents in 1908 residing at Tollcross (and Annie WATSON had given in 1923 her address as "Tolcross"  (sp. ?) in 1923. )   Might be of help in tracking the other daughter Isabella - if others have access to UK records ??

mckha489, rosinish & Lucy2, thank you for your quick responses to my query. I posted just before going out door to work thinking would be awhile before response.Lists I have are;

I have checked Scottish records for marriages & deaths of Isabella and Annie with no results so looking at these figured must be NZ.
