Gosh Rootschatters work fast!

So... she was a Jones AND a Waite! And should've been a Waite from the start? (I hadn't heard about Bastardy orders before!)

That makes a lot more sense, thank you!

Hi
Just found a bastardy order against Jonas Waite by Ann Jones 19 Feb 1847 .
Got to be Elizabeth Ann's father.

So it seems they married 4 years latter.I wonder how much wangling went on there?

Her baptism is at Fyfield
Elizabeth Ann Jones 1 Aug 1847 d of Ann Jones lab of Lockeridge

Great find!
Does she also do the same for John?

Seems like she's shamed Jonas into marrying her... I wonder how happy they were or not.
And perhaps Elizabeth is estranged from or ashamed of her father? Not to put his details on her marriage certificate.

This may be Elizabeth in 1871.

WAITE   Elizabeth   Servnt   U   F   24   Laundry Maid   Wiltshire

Working for John Ladds at South Park, Wadhurst, Sussex 4 miles from Ticehurst where the marriage was registered.

LADDS   John   Head   M   M   56   Landowner   Huntingdonshire    Spaldwick

Colin

That's great Colin, explains why they married in Sussex, which I was wondering and trying to find her there in 1871, but was looking for someone a few years younger.

oddly in 1911 Elizabeth says she has been married 26 years - c1883 - Alfred left those columns blank

Maybe she's just bad at numbers. They marry in 1873.

Also in all the census returns her age is about 4 years out, but I wonder if she puts her age to match her parents marriage date?

Also what happened to Beatrice? I couldn't find a death index for her, or any further mention of her really.

Could this be Beatrice? If so, why isn't she named in death? Is it possible she was named posthumously, did that happen?
