The 1881 Census "as posted" should refer to Elizabeth being born "Dyffryn Ard __(?) Merioneth".
The "Ard __" looks like "Ardwy" and might be an attempt to capture "Ardudwy".

Gadget, I accept your comments re registration districts. Certainly Thomas and Edward are recorded as born Llanbedr, which of course is in the Ffestiniog reg district. The only common maiden surname for a Thomas 1873 and Edward 1874 in this area have mmn Prichard. Cannot find a Humphreys/Prichard marriage though.

I just had a look at the 1881 census on familysearchorg and it says Elizabeth born 1869 Dyffryn Ardwy , Merionethshire . It also says that Ann estimated birth date , together with Edward being 1845
That marriage at Llanfyllin in 1863 might not seem too daft now ?

Alan - FindMyPast has the welsh marriage certs, if they were married in a C of E (in Wales).

I was lucky to find most of mine as they were mainly from the North Wales area.

Re the Llanfyllin marriage

Llanfyllin would refer to the Reg District. If it was a parish marriage it could take place in any of the parish thatwere part of that District.

Your Llanfyllin marriage was a civil marriage so you'd have to buy the cert.
