Pampoen - thanks for that.

The AngloBoer War site has 3 mentions of W/Walter Cleasby.
Reckon I need to research this person!
Could be William, born 1874 Pietermaritzburg?

EDIT:
Walter Cleasby, born 1871 in Durham.
Has a probate record - death 16th April 1902, probate 15th September 1902

So probably not my man in Steinaecker's Horse?

Not sure if this helps you sort it out, but there is this grave inscription (FindMyPast) in Durham:

Ralph Henry CLEASBY who died on 10th November 1901 aged 65 and Walter his son, killed in action near Heinesburg on 10th April 1902 aged 29.

The Co. Durham Cleasby's appear to be a different branch.
No connection found so far -but I'm concentrating on South Africa/Eccles/Westmorland at the moment.
