Hanes - many thanks for all your work.

I think that Thomas JONES and Rachel DAVIES never married because Rachel died shortly after the birth of Rees:-

03 Mar 1815  Rachel Davies was buried at Llanbadarn Trefeglwys

Subsequently :-

24 Dec 1817  Thomas JONES bachelor m Sarah JONES spinster in Lledrod

and this couple appear in '41 at Llanfihangel Llethyr Troed

Was Rees's mother a widow?

I cannot find a likely baptism of a Rachel DAVIES near Tregaron in the period 1770 - 1790. However, I have found:-

19 Nov 1789   Rachel JONES   m  Richard DAVIES in Tregaron

and

14 Sep 1808   Richard DAVIES  buried in Lledrod

The timing and locations fit, so, is this a possible solution?

A further item:-

27 Mar 1820  burial of Rachel DAVIES age 59 (b 1761) in Lledrod

This surely is the widow of Richard DAVIES. However, would she have been too old - 53 years - to have given birth to Rees in 1814?

Consensus seems to be that it is highly unlikely that the 53-year-old widow could be the mother of Rees JONES, so I have reverted to seeking a suitable baptism. How about:-

14 Jan 1794   Rachel DAVID   father David NOTHUS   Llanddewi-Brefi
or
30 Nov 1794  Rachel DAVID   father David JONES      Llanddewi-Brefi

Ages are spot-on, and the transition DAVID/DAVIES is relatively common.
