Trish,

Rees consistently gave his birth year as 1815. FindMyPast only offers:-

17 Jul 1815  Rees to Thomas & Sarah JONES in Ystrad Fflur (Strata Florida)

In 1841, a Thomas & Sarah JONES were living in Gwnnws. he was a Blacksmith so probably could afford to apprentice his son to a tailor.

Thoughts?

if he was born in the later part of 1814, he would show as born 1815 on the census. So the Dec 1814 could be possible for date. The parish entry for the baptism shows 8 Dec 1814 Rees illegitimate son of Thomas Jones, farmer, and Rachel Davies of Tynyberth.

One of Rees's sons was named Thomas, which is the same as both putative fathers, but none of his daughters was Rachel or Sarah, so there's no guidance there.
I think a farmer's son is a more likely candidate to become a tailor than a blacksmith's son, whom I would expect to follow in father's footsteps, but how do we decide?

The "Abode" recorded on the Rees Jones baptism of 8 Dec 1814 (parents Thomas Jones and Rachel Davies) is "Tyn y berth".
A witness to Rees' marriage to Margaret Evans is "Daniel Jones, Tynyberth."

1841 Census (ref. HO107 Piece 1376  Folio 5  Page 2)
Daniel Jones, age 65, Farmer, born in County (Card), address Tynyberth.

Note - "Tynyberth" (and variations) by no means an unusual address.

I think that this is the Rees JONES I'm seeking.

Anyone disagree?

The 1851 Census names his wife as Gwenllyan, age 65, born Llanbadarn Odwyn.

The baptism of Joseph Jones (on the '41 and '51 Census) -
Joseph Jones, 22 July 1822, abode Pant sheriff, parents Daniel and Winifred.

I assume "Pant sheriff" is an attempt to capture "Pant Shiri" within the Parish of Tregaron.

Still looking for the link between Daniel Jones and Rees Jones. Who was the Thomas at "Tynyberth" in 1814?

Added - Daniel's PoB "Caron-is-Clawdd"
