Death and Burial Francis Joseph Dimmack
« on: Wednesday 17 August 22 20:22 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find a death for Francis Joseph Dimmack, son of William Dimmack and Sarah Cook. Francis Joseph Dimmack was born on 1st Dec 1843 in Clerkenwell, Middlesex. He married Sophia Andrews in Christ Church in Spitalfields on 26 November 1866. The last known location for him is in the district of Camberwell in 1881, living with his wife and seven children. His wife died in 1886 and was buried in Southwark on 16 April. His eldest daughter Sophia married in April 1897 and he is listed on the marriage certificate as deceased (he's also listed on his other daughter's marriage certificate in 1904 as deceased).

I've looked for death records between 1881 and 1897 to no avail. His death may be listed under a variation of 'Dimmack' e.g. Dummock, Dimmock, Dymock etc.

I'm pretty much at the end of each family line, so I'll probably be posting more of my dead ends here throughout the year.

Many thanks

Have you looked at Frank with a variation on the surname.

Who registered his wife's death

What about checking the census to see if he is living with a married daughter

Surprisingly enough I hadn't no! I'd tried different variations on the surname but not on the first name, silly really. Although given what's posted below, I'm guessing the likelihood of finding him now is quite slim.

It always amazes me what you are able to find. Did not know about this at all, of the seven children I knew about Annie (b. 1876), Henry (b. 1877) and Rosina (b.1879) appear to match to the deserted children (Didn't know about George!). Looks like it wasn't long before he ditched the children..

I wonder why he was listed as deceased on the marriage certificates then, unless this was usual practice in these scenarios. I would imagine they'd only list them as deceased if they knew it was so.

Maybe as the children were deserted by their father they thought he was dead.

You seem to have done quite well yourself, but, what about trying to trace all the children's  marriages and  look at the witnesses
