William Welsh Forbes graduated from Edinburgh University in 1822.

There is a George Forbes graduating in medicine in 1794, perhaps his father?

The Inverness Courier of 3-2-1841 reports on the presentation of a gold watch to a Dr George Forbes who was leaving for India. He and his brother "Mr Charles Forbes, surgeon" had both joined the medical service of the H. East India Company.

Thank you for the responses, I think that the Duncan George Forbes,Culloden family is different to my Inverness family but I am still researching. I am very appreciative of the help and advice given here.

I know you are focusing on the Forbes line, but just adding this in case you don't have it.

Below is a death notice for Marjory Alves, wife of William Welsh. The source is The Scots Magazine, 1793, Volume 55 pg 206 (google books). Link shrunk here www.rootschat.com/links/01rsc/

Again, on a side note, from Reminiscences of Inverness : its people and places:

The three gentlemen who
have just stepped out of the front door are Dr. William
W. Forbes, his brother Dr. George Forbes, and Mr.
John Eussell, slater........Drs. George
and William Forbes are two sons of a numerous family,
their father being Dr. Forbes, who was for many years
surgeon of the Inverness-shire Militia, a post which
he held in addition to his local practice. On their
mother's side they are grandsons of Mr. William Welsh,
proprietor of Millburn, who was Provost of Inverness
about the year 1790. The younger man, Dr. George,
has just received his University diploma, and is
about to sail for India to fulfil an important appoint-
ment in the East India Company's service.
