Frank Watt Tyler collection
« on: Sunday 21 August 22 12:31 BST (UK) »
Hello

I may have to wait for the Institute for Heraldic & Genealogical Studies (IHGS) to open but does anyone have any idea when the notebooks were compiled and when they were deposited?

I've been looking at the images on Ancestry and I've googled but no date information seems to be forthcoming.

Casting around spotted one set (Chartham?) published 1937. Another reference mentioned he was most active in the 1930s.
In 1935 he was Hon Sec, Records Branch, Kent Archaeological Society when the Soc. was writing to every Solicitor in Kent about the documents they held.
Saw a possible death in 1951 - but info is scarce.

The Kentish Express, 16 May 1941, reported he had resigned from the Society on health grounds.

The IHGS was open today so I phoned them.

(For anyone stumbling across this in the future)

The collection was deposited with them in the 1980's, there are also other items of his with the Society of Genealogists.

The books were compiled in the 1930's and 1940's and were not complete extracts but entries for names that were of interest to him.

That however does not explain how a collection of notebooks with a distinctly Kent bias also includes the entries I was looking at from Coldharbour near Dorking in Surrey which isn't even on the Kent-Surrey border.

However, I am grateful the books have been digitised and transcribed and I found useful references which I would not have found otherwise.
