Look up please
« on: Tuesday 23 August 22 15:58 BST (UK) »
William Birkett married Sarah Bradley 1846 • Old Wesleyan Chapel, Ambleside, Cumbria. I am looking for William's Father's name and occupation. Am I right in thinking this would be in the parish register or Bishops transcripts? Thank you.

How do you come to know the exact date and place?

That information should indicate if anything further is available without purcof certificate.

Pauline

That's what came up on Family search. I found a newspaper article which stated they were married at the Independent church Ambleside. William of Matterdale and Sarah of Grasmere.

You will probably need to purchase the certificate from the GRO at Southport.  Looking at the listing for it on freebmd there seems to be a discrepancy with the district number

Marriages Sep qtr 1846
Birkett    William        Kendall registration district    26   469

Marriages Sep qtr 1846
Bradley    Sarah        Kendal registration district            25   469

They have this note against Williams entry
https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/districts.pl?r=10975941:4360&d=bmd_1653949805]

The district Kendall has been linked by FreeBMD to Kendal although it is not strictly an alternative name for this district. See here for information created by FreeBMD about the district Kendal.
Kendal spans the boundaries of the counties of Lancashire and Westmorland; information about it can be found here

However...

The volume 26 is not valid for district Kendal in the year 1846 and therefore there may be an error in the GRO index or in the transcription. Please see here for information about volumes associated with particular districts. The expected volume is 25.
