Looking for information on Raines Family

I am looking for information in regards to my ancestors. I can’t seem to find any further information before 1845. The last relative I can get information on is James Edward Raines born Lyminge 1845, possible father Robert - that’s all I have if anyone can assist I would be very appreciative.

Freebmd has a James Rains b Kent 1845 but birth was registered Milton & Lyminge came under Elham RD

In 1851 James E Raines is with his grandmother Mary Raines

Who did he marry- when & where?

He Married Martha Chapman in Melrose South Australia, Australia 12-7-1869

What name did he give for his father when he married?

The 1851 has an Edward & Harriet Raines shown as the children of Mary but looking back to 1841 they could be the children of Thomas & Ann

I have Robert but it may not be correct, no mother so I can’t go any further

  He was baptised at Saltwood Dec 1844, mother Mary, father not known. Saltwood is not too far from Lyminge.
   I see he was in Saltwood in 1851, with his grandmother. His mother (presumably) was back in service in Folkestone.

Does it give a Surname for Mary? I can’t find any info on the free bdm

   Mary was baptised in Saltwood in 1822, daughter of Richard and Mary Raines.

So from what I can see Mary was a single mother, wasn’t that a big no no back then?
