Burnsall Bridge

And that the public bridge on the high road over the River Wharfe in the parish of Burnsall in the West Riding in the aforesaid county, commonly called Burnsall Bridge, on the first day of July in the ninth year of the reign of our lord William the Third [1697] by the grace of God King of England etc. was, and still is, greatly damaged and in great decline due to the lack of repairs, to the extent that the subjects of the said lord King are not able to cross the aforesaid bridge themselves, or with their yoked horses and carts, without great danger of losing their goods, against the peace etc., and against the form of the statute etc.; and that the inhabitants of the West Riding in the aforesaid county must repair and mend the aforesaid bridge, and they will customarily do so as much, as often and whenever it will be necessary.
The entry for the New Bridge in the parish of Kettlewell has identical wording, except for the date of inspection, 1 July 1696 (8. William III), and the witness, James Simondson.
