Might you be getting your details mixed up or wrong? There is the birth of a John Matthew METCALFE mmn HEPPELL q1 1907 Newcastle on Tyne 10b 3.

His parents are likely this marriage - q4 1901 Newcastle 10b 3 - John Matthew METCALFE & Margaret Elizabeth HEPPELL.

You can see the widowed mother and son in the 1939 register. [NB FindMyPast has the mothers birth as 1894 though it is actually 1874. Just thought I'd mention it in case you could not find it.]

added - Birth q1 1905 Thomas Heppell METCALF mmn HEPPELL Newcastle on Tyne 10b 5.

Edit - When I took the trouble to look at Sandy’s earlier posts I see that her late mother Margaret METCALFE was born in 1937 and her Gdad was also called John Matthew METCALF(E) who had married Olive MILLER.

Sandy - Without access to paid for sites you can sort out your family to a large extent by using Freebmd - https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
and the GRO site - https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp

Freebmd - marriage q1 1934 Chester-le-Street 10a 911 - John M METCALFE & Olive MILLER.

The GRO site is  better than Freebmd when wanting the mmn (Mothers Maiden Name) before 1911 and for ages at death before around 1860.

Most libraries have access to the main genealogy sites like FindMy Past and Ancestry; if you can get to one.

If he was your great grandfather - which side?  Maternal or Paternal.

You presumably have fuller details of your grandfather/grandmother birthyear & birthplace so can use that info to look for him on censuses

Hi Thanks everyone for your help.

I think I need to start again with my grandad family.

I know that my grandad married Oliver Miller in 1934 in a Register office in the district of Chester le Street and he was living at what looks like
40 Gillilaud Creseant , he was 27 years old and a coal miner. In April 1937 he was living at 95 Brighton Road Gateshead . It looks like he was a Blacksmith/miner . That from my mum birth certificate. I know when world war 2 started he lied and join the army.

    He had 2 brothers

Richard W born about 1889 . Richard was know as Dick. He was married and his first wife and child died in childbirth. He  married
 again and had 3 children.

His other brother was Thomas he was know asTommy and  he had something wrong with him. I was
told that he had a child illness but not sure what

My great grandad dad was John Matthew Metcalfe and he was a coal miner to.

My grandad family talked about Nappa Hall in North Yorkshire  .

The link with my great grandmother came from my mum . I can not remember what she said her first was but she said it wasHeppelwhite.

Thank you sandy

Richard W born about 1889

If his parents only married in 1901 he could not have had a brother born in 1889
