Charles King c.1857 Mathon
« on: Sunday 04 September 22 19:52 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have Mathon baptisms and marriages that could see if there's a Charles King b.1856 / 1857?

Thanks!

There is a baptism of a Charles King in Tarrington Hereford 19 November 1857, father William King, mother Mary Ann (no maiden name) Tarrington is approximately 12 mile South West of Mathon.
Looking up Mathon on Genuki it says "Mathon was transferred from WOR to HEF in 1897 and from Diocese of Worcester to Diocese of Hereford in 1906."
(Ref: The Parish Registers of Herefordshire, J Harnden, 1987, ISBN 0 9512347 0 6)
The area now known as West Malvern was originally part of Mathon, but was made a separate parish at that time, and remained part of Worcestershire."
On FreeBMD it is included in the Ledbury registration district bit I can't see a birth reg there for 1856/7. There is one for 1852 but with the middle name Henry.

Do you have your Charles King on any of the censuses?

Thanks for replying. Yes, I have him on censuses born pretty consistently 1856/7 but sometimes reported as from Colwall, one time from Mathon. I've been through the Colwall register, it's not there. It's not the 1852 one. So Mathon is my next best bet.

1911, merthyr tydfil (lower merthyr tydfil) , Class: RG14; Piece: 32442; Schedule Number: 299
Enumeration District: 18

1901 merthyr tydfil, Class: RG13; Piece: 5027; Folio: 117; Page: 51
Enumeration District: 36

1891 merthyr tydfil, Class: RG12; Piece: 4434; Folio: 104; Page: 27
Enumeration District: 12

Is that ok for you or do you need other info? I'm not entirely sure how to reference these correctly

ALSO the GRO record of his death on 24 Sept 1911 gives his age as 54 - so birth year c.1857

Is he on the 1861 & 1871 censuses?  Were his parents William & Mary Ann?

That's all I know so far. I'd previously thought he was the 1852 birth to John and Mary Anne King, but having built out that tree very extensively, found I had not a single DNA match beyond the Charles King in question. So I think that must be wrong and I'm looking for the alternative. I can't see any other obvious census entries for the earlier years. He was married in Merthyr in 1887, but I don't know when he moved there from Worcs.

The 1891 shows his birthplaces as Malvern Worcestershire - not Herefordshire

1901 also shows Worcs but 1911 is Hereford
