Service record of William Elliott born 1840

Can anyone help me with military records of William Elliott, born 1840 in Coventry? He served 21 years in the army starting in 1859 or 1860…..ending therefore in late 1880 or beginning of 1881. [He became a rural letter carrier in January 1881] I have no definite idea about regiment or service number, but I do know, from court proceedings in 1882, that he had a good service record and 21 years of service.

He served 20 years 351 days. Four years 209 days in Singapore and four years 38 days in Hong Kong. His conduct was good. He was 5ft 8 ins tall
Complexion fair.
Eyes dark
Hair Dark  brown.
