Mary Valentine Ewen
« on: Friday 09 September 22 17:56 BST (UK) »
Looking into the life of Mary Valentine Ewen, born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.....in 1891 she is given as a domestic servant, to the Humphries family, in Melton Mowbray.......just wondered if anyone can make out their address, it was possibly in the Leicester Street area of Melton, but is very hard to decipher......Thanks....

Sorry, I don't seem to be able to post the image of the address......if anyone could look at it I would be grateful.....Mary Valentine Ewen is mistranscribed as Mary T Ewen in the 1891 census.....

I think it is in the middle of the second image but still difficult to read. From enumerator's walk.

The burial of Alfred Humphries, on 15th September 1897, gave his address as Leicester Street. At the top of the page is a burial of Mary Jane Bunyan of Shipley's Yard, which is probably the address for Alfred in 1891.

There are some mentions of Alfred in the newspapers about prizes for horses at the Melton Mowbray District Horse Show in 1891. He received 3rd prize for his one year old bay gelding hunter, and 1st prize for the best yearling adapted for hunting, colt or filly.
