Agreed ...

Maybe the first letter is a P (just visible in the second image), based on the construction of the B in the Mary Birkhead entry below.
Almeroth, Germany (probably Hessen). Mawer, Softley, Johnson, Lancaster, Tatum, Bucknall (E.Yorks, Nfk, Lincs)

Judy sent me the files to be reduced and I still have the originals.

I've just spotted  the letter form that might be a B that Sugarbaker referred to.

Could the surname be Pilner

I've not spotted a P as yet but the enlargement does seem to suggest the bottom of the loop of a P

I'm having problems with my internet this pm.

I can't find any suitable baptisms for Margaret but this would probably have occurred during the Commonwealth period so might well have not been recorded.

Even closer ... from a screen grab ... a ghost of a P, similar to the ghost of the L.

Yes - I agreed previously.

Could the surname be Pilner

Is this ant larger from the original that Judy sent me.

However, as I said - if it was a birth/baptism in the Commonwealth period, it is not all that likely that it would be recorded.

I see the records are missing for the probable date of birth/bapt for Margaret in the Hesket parish
