I am still researching George Clifton and have come across another stumbling block. I have a marriage certificate for George Clifton and Harriett Giles, married in 1837. I have now come across a Banns year for the marriage in 1835. Banns date 26 July 1835.Marriage place Lamberhurst. This does look like the same couple. How could we have 2 different years for a marriage. Also adding to this her first son was born in 1836 and she doesn't list a father for him. Maybe another error. I got a copy of the death certificate from Ore which the info was given to me by Kay99 and it was a perfect match. Thankyou Kay. Any ideas on the 2 different marriages?
Cheers

Could it simply be they had a change of heart or the marriage was  deferred for some  reason :-\

Kay

Just noticed on Anc trees that Harriett was born about 1816 - Could the deferal of the marriage be until she was 21 and didn't need parental consent??

That is certainly what it looks like. I was also wondering, because it was 1835, would they have to register the marriages in 1837. Harriot seems to have an issue with her facts though, on her second marriage certificate to John Groombridge she states she is a spinster. Just one of those mysteries in researching our ancestors,

I think she was actually born about 1810 but baptised 5 years later, I might need to recheck that though. They both state full age on certificate, but i suppose that could be a fib as well

Thankyou Trish, yes I do have that info now, I do think that is the correct family and there is an error on the marriage certificate which lists Henry as the father.
