It's been a long period of grieving and I'm all teared out.
Today I admired the precisions of H.M. armed forces as they marked the occasion with dignity, pride and precision to honour their late Queen. If my OH was still alive he would have been standing in front of the TV; shoulders back, head up, chin down, saluting the life and passing of his Commander in Chief. Probably with a new haircut, which seemed the order of the day for the matelots (naval ratings) on parade. Older readers might recall that when wearing a school uniform the hair had to be "off the collar" if short or tied back if long. One female officer, saluting at the doorway, was dressed in a grey uniform, flat cap atop of blond hair, and I found myself saying; "get a haircut", because her short hair straggled on her collar lol.
As I watched the invited dignitaries arriving for the service, I found myself silently thanking them for making the effort to come. I was especially pleased to see the Sheik of Bahrain walking down the aisle, probably because my OH had a minute period of knowing one of his predecessors, who had asked the RAF to train a football team and organise a football match- my OH and a pal were qualified football referees and coaches at the time.. After the match my OH and his pal were thanked by the Sheik and taken on a tour of a palace. My OH was really impressed with a collection of watches that the Sheik possessed. A few years ago I looked online to see if HM forces recorded events such as athletic meetings, rugby and football, boxing tournaments and found that until comparatively recently nothing was officially recorded.
RIP Your Majesty
