Diary summary week ending 25th September - the end of an era
« on: Monday 19 September 22 08:31 BST (UK) »
Well here we are at the day of the queen's funeral, a momentous day in history as world leaders gather for the occasion. No doubt it will be a harrowing day for many and a strange experience for Prince George and Princess Charlotte at such young ages.

I'm sure many Rootschatters will be glued to the TV today to watch the pomp and spectacle of the day unfold.

Rest in peace your majesty.

Yes, a very sad but glorious day, I hope The King feels comfort and loving support from the crowds’ applause.
I can hardly believe Her Majesty has left us,as much as mothers ever leave those in their care.
From childhood I felt The Royal Family cared about us,with no real powers but a voice and opinions which were, are and will be relevant to us here and the subjects abroad.
I’ll bet people in many countries wish they had such a wise and reasonable
Head of State.

Well, the walk with the gun carriage has started.
I can’t see very well —-
Viktoria.

It's been a long period of grieving and I'm all teared out.

Today I admired the precisions of H.M. armed forces as they marked the occasion with dignity, pride and precision to honour their late Queen.  If my OH was still alive he would have been standing in front of the TV; shoulders back, head up, chin down, saluting the life and passing of his Commander in Chief.  Probably with a new haircut, which seemed the order of the day for the matelots (naval ratings) on parade.  Older readers might recall that when wearing a school uniform the hair had to be "off the collar" if short or tied back if long.  One female officer, saluting at the doorway, was dressed in a grey uniform, flat cap atop of blond hair, and I found myself saying; "get a haircut", because her short hair straggled on her collar lol.

As I watched the invited dignitaries arriving for the service, I found myself silently thanking them for making the effort to come.  I was especially pleased to see the Sheik of Bahrain walking down the aisle, probably because my OH had a minute period of knowing one of his predecessors, who had asked the RAF to train a football team and organise a football match- my OH and a pal were qualified football referees and coaches at the time..  After the match my OH and his pal were thanked by the Sheik and taken on a tour of a palace.  My OH was really impressed with a collection of watches that the Sheik possessed.  A few years ago I looked online to see if HM forces recorded events such as athletic meetings, rugby and football, boxing tournaments and found that until comparatively recently nothing was officially recorded.

RIP Your Majesty

Yes we do. I wasn't as emotionally affected today as I thought I would be, I've just been in awe of the military display.

My thoughts are with the drummer - I do hope that he hasn't developed a headache as that was a very long time to be "marking time".  Yet again a wonderful display from our Armed Forces.  Very moving.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
