Small world KGarrad. I was in the Saracens Head on the day of the proclamation of King Charles III. My grandfather lived in Highworth in the early 1900s. Could they have known each other?
I share you enthusiasm for the staff of the Swindon Library where I go when ever I get the chance. I was there recently and , of course, when I got home, something new comes up. It will have to wait for now. T

Arthur James Garrad was in Highworth from c1908 until c1914.
He then moved to the Bear Inn on Bear Flat, Wellsway in Bath.

Thanks for all the help given on this subject. I can now add that I have found 2 important sources on this subject.
"Home Brewed" by David W Backhouse  &
"Last Orders" by John Stooke 2019.

Makes interesting reading. T

Hello

I know you were looking for more than just comments in newspapers. But the newspapers carried reports from the licensing magistrates sessions. I've traced details of several of my ancestors pubs that way. The pubs history website is also very useful. https://pubwiki.co.uk/Wiltshire/Swindon/index.shtml
