Maria Couzens

Good afternoon,
I am hoping someone can guide me in the right direction please.
Maria was my 4th G Grandmother.  On a birth certificate I obtained for one of her children, her maiden name is listed as Cousens (1837).
She married Richard Bailey and on the 1841 census, she is 45 and he is 40.
The only marriage I have found is in Alverstoke between Richard Bailey and a Maria Adams.  This has got me thinking she may have been married before.  I then found a marriage between a Soloman Adams and Maria Couzens.  Thus far I have not managed to find a death for Soloman Adams.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you both. I’m just scrolling through the 1841 and 1851 census. If this is the right person (Maria), she is married to Richard Bailey. This looks like her 2nd marriage and she is older than Richard by 5 years. There is a Maria (Hull) daughter aged 25 and then younger children. On the 1851 census, daughter Maria is 36 and changed her name to Bailey.
I managed to find a birth for daughter Maria to Solomon and Maria Cousens but it says she died in 1820.
Still no death found for Solomon though. It’s all very confusing.

1841 does not give relationships though Maria Hull is listed after Richard & Maria and before their children.

In 1844 Maria Hull marries George Adams - she was a widow, her father is listed as Richard Bailey.
Witnesses were Richard & Maria Bailey

ADDED 1851 has Maria junior listed as married, perhaps the surname Bailey was a mistake on this census

There is a baptism of a Maria Adams 5 Sep 1815 at St Mary, Portsea - parents Soloman & Maria
Abode Prospect Place, fathers occ Labourer

There is also a baptism for an Eleanor Couzens Adams 14th April 1816 at Portsea bn 20 Jul 1811; Father a Carpenter of Stamshaw - parents James & Maria.  Transcript only, I was wondering whether they were married. 

There are other children being baptised at Portsea around this time with parents Soloman & Maria Adams 

Thomas or James 26 Dec 1819 - Brighton Row -father occ Labourer
Robert Henry Sept 1820 - Brighton Row -fathers occ Rigger

Hi Rosie. Thank you for the information. Yes I found the birth for Maria in 1815 but then a death was linked to her for 1820  . My mistake, it is in the 1851 census it states she is a daughter (so the death entry doesn’t make sense).
It pretty much seems that Maria (Mother) was married to Solomon Adams first and then Richard Bailey afterwards. If I could have found a death for Solomon that would have explained the situation but have still had no luck. Thank you for the lead on Maria Hull being a widow and remarrying. I’ll check it out tomorrow. Have a good evening. Xx
