Hugh Rhind’s army pension papers recorded his death as 13 Jan 1851

Pity not a few months later to let us confirm details from a further census.

Neale, do you think this is the same Hugh as the one linked from TNA? I couldn't see a death date on the army pension papers but I skimmed through.

Both births/baptisms are on Family Search.
FS also indexes originals which are on Scotland's People.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

We know that our Hugh Rhind was a weaver in the 1841 census.

He served as a private in 1st regiment RA under Capt. May
