1939 National Register - abbreviation LGD ?
« on: Monday 26 September 22 05:02 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Would anybody know what the abbreviation "LGD" written above "S" for "Single" would mean ?

It is entered in the attached for Dorothy Snellgrove in Bootle, Lancs.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/comments, etc.

Aren’t they the initials of the person who put in the altered/corrected date of birth?

Possibly the area code where the amendment was done, LGD is Chester

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions.

The location was Bootle so it is not the area designation.

Perhaps it really is as simply as someone's initials (?)

Any further ideas/comments/suggestions welcome.

Presumably the adjustment was done by the N H S after the register had been used for its war purposes.  The area code relates to where the record was amended

It looks like the LGD relates to the date of birth amendment /correction, from 9th September 1903 to 9th April 1903, rather than relating to her status of “S”.

Rosie’s suggestion makes sense. Chester is not far from Bootle. Did Dorothy ever live in Chester?

If LGD was someone’s initials, wouldn’t it be written in italics like a signature?

I agree with the above Ruskie.

I'm curious as to why the entry hasn't got a score through it to suggest an error & a correction?

Born Apr (4), amendment for Sep (9), is it possible the original '4' could've looked like a '9'  ???

It's an odd one for sure  ;)

Dorothy’s birth appears to have been registered in the September quarter of 1903. A late registration if born in April.  :-\

Makes sense but...

SiGr - The distance from Bootle to Chester is approx. 30 miles which would be roughly a 40 mins drive although it would've taken a lot longer in days prior to 1939.

Do you know how long Dorothy lived in Chester for the error to have come to light?

I passed on an error many yrs ago when transferring info. which had to be given to me over the phone.
After ordering the cert. over the phone (a facility I think may be no longer available)? I was quoting dates from said phone call, the date I was given was the Reg. date, very different from the actual date of birth!
My uncle then had the wrong info. on his Obit & MI if I recall correctly.
