FindMyPast subscription renewal offer
« on: Wednesday 28 September 22 22:37 BST (UK) »
Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere, I can't find anything.

I've had an email from FindMyPast offering me a 20% discount if I renew my subscription (due 28th November) by 10am on Friday. The email was sent late this afternoon (Wednesday) so apart from it being two months till my subscription expires, it only gives me about a day and a half to think about it.

If I ignore it and hold on till nearer the time, are they likely to send me a better offer? Or should I let it expire and wait for them to send me begging emails?  ;D

Any advice based on experience would be gratefully received.

Hi Roobarb

Not much help but these are my thoughts ~

If you go in to your account and then payment history, you might get more info.

I've just checked and my sub is due next March but I've not had an e-mail offering anything. Are you sure it's from FindMyPast?

Are you on auto renewal?

Mine is due to renew on 5th November.  I have not had an email but normally get their usual auto renew discount.

I'm pretty sure it's genuine Gadget, the email address is info@hello.findmypast.com
It's headed as being a flash sale. Save 20% on any subscription.

My account just says that it renews on 28th November, I normally give a wide berth to any auto renewal but I seem to remember I got the deal on that basis. I'll certainly cancel well before if I decide not to go ahead. When I click the info button it says my loyalty discount will be applied on renewal, although I don't know what that discount is.

It seems the correct e-mail, Roobarb. I've just check and I have e-mails from either hello or noreply!

I remember they did something strange a couple of years ago and some of us had to pay earlier but this was adjusted later. I wonder if it's something like that  :-\

Is it worth contacting them.

I have not had a Find My Past subscription for maybe 2 years.  I have just received an email offering 20% off to renew.

To be honest I feel like telling them to stuff it, I don't like being pressurised in this way. And of course it's crafty of them in more than one way, as well as having the assurance of my renewal they would have my money two months earlier than it's due.

Kaybron, was there a short time limit on your offer too?

Roobarb,

I think they are offering 20% off across the board until 30 Sept.  When I ago on there is a box at the top that mentions it.  The offer has been there for a few weeks now.

Not sure whether I got an email as well.  I didn’t auto renew mine earlier this year but in June they were offering 30% off so I did it then.  So it can pay to wait if you don’t mind being without it for a while.

P.S. I’ve probably spent all the money I saved on 1921 census by now 😂

Thanks Pinetree, I think I'll probably cancel then wait to see what they come up with. I've done this with other companies (not family history ones) and they always come up with something. Have to play them at their own game! In these times of economic hardship they'll be desperate to hang on to their customers.
And of course there'll probably be some free access offer over Christmas!
