Charles Alexander Forrester
« on: Thursday 29 September 22 06:09 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Can anyone help me find out what happened to my Grandmother's uncle?

His name was Charles Alexander Forrester, and he was born on 15 October 1915 in Liverpool to Percival and Martha.

He fought in World War Two and served in places such as Burma. He was stationed in Germany at some point in the 40s (probably during British occupation) but not sure of the exact location. He met and married a local German woman, who was called Liesl, but we don't know her surname. They had at least two children born between c. 1948-1950. The family came back to Liverpool in the mid-1960s for a time and appear on the electoral registers here at 19 Deysbrook Lane, Liverpool. They moved back to Germany not long after as Liesl did not like Liverpool, or could not settle here. After that, my grandmother never saw her uncle or cousins again, and has no idea what happened to them.

I have no idea what to do next to see what happened to them. Presumably, Charles and his wife have been deceased for decades. I don't know how old his wife was, but Charles would be pushing 110 by now, so almost certainly deceased! Their children would only be in their early-mid 70s, (a similar age to my grandmother), so they are probably still alive, but it can't be said for certain.

I'd hope to find out when Charles and Liesl died, their marriage record, and where exactly they were in Germany and what their life might have been like.

If anyone could help or suggest any ideas, I'd be very grateful. Thank you. :)

Thanks for finding these amondg!  :) My grandmother told me she remembered the family being here in the 60s, but obviously they were here earlier. Perhaps he was in Germany between 1949-1950. That fits with the approximate dates for the birth of their children. I haven’t found a birth record for either of them, they may well still be alive so I’m not sure if I can share their names publicly. I haven’t found a marriage record for Charles and his wife either, assuming that they were married.

Yes, this is was mum! Percival did also die in 1930. He was born (or at least registered) under the name Charles Percifield in Yeadon, Yorkshire (1880). Not sure why his parents changed it (he appears as Percy C. Forrester in 1881 census) but maybe he knew as he called his second son Charles (the first also being Percival Carlyle). As for the electoral register in your previous post, the 66 Chester Road address was a residence in the family for a very long time, we had relatives still living there in the 80s at least, but have since become distanced.

Oh wow! This is fantastic! Thank you so much for finding this!  :) Apologies for such little knowledge but is it possible to order certificates from Germany?

Hi
I think you order it from the GRO. But I'm not sure how!
