Lane family of Glendon, Rothwell and Horton
« on: Friday 30 September 22 15:41 BST (UK) »
Doing a personal study on the LANE family from Glendon, Rothwell parish and Horton, all Northamptonshire during the 17th & early 18th centuries.

If anyone has access to these parish records (BMD/Burials, etc.) I'd much appreciate extracts from these if possible. I need some specific dates. This would be very much appreciated. I'm unable to access much online.

Parents names are William Lane & Anne Isham; his son Sir Robert Lane & Theodosia Manners; his son Francis Lane & Mary Hartopp.

Many thanks.

You have put no dates for these people to help with a search (apart from a vague '17th and 18th  centuries'), which makes it somewhat more difficult to know when to look for them.

There is a very large and comprehensive genealogy on stirnet.com which has William Lane b c 1599, d 1637, married to Ann Isham, daughter of John Isham of Pitchley.
His father Robert Lane married Theodosia Mannors (sister of Sir Charles Mannors). No dates given for these people - I suspect they couldn't find any.
Ditto no dates for Francis Lane and Mary Hartop, daughter of Sir Thomas Hartop of Burton Lazars.

familyserach.org have films of the Horton registers digitised, starting at 1605, but they are locked and you can only view them at an LDS family history centre.
Rothwell registers start 1614, but again are locked.

You would be very lucky to find any parish registers prior to these dates.

As these are high social level families, they may not even have been married or baptised in the local parish church. They may have gone to the nearest big city, or to a cathedral - anywhere in the country possibly. Many higher class families also had their own chapels at their grand houses, and many had their own priests.

Have you searched for any wills for these people? Again, if they were high social class families, there is a good chance they left wills.

Have you searched The National Archives Discovery site?
There are bound to be legal disputes for them.

This one also includes some Mannors family

Same with Robert

Plus many others.
If you're nor aware, you need to put 'William Lane" Horton in the search box. The inverted commas will look specifically for that name instead of everyone called William and everyone called Lane.

Many thanks Goldie61 & Trish 1120 for your replies and suggestions and my apologies for the delay in replying. Unfortunately work got in the way!!!
I've taken on board your suggestions and will try and access the parish registers at our local LDS centre here in Edinburgh. Another option is visiting the Society of Genealogists when next in London.
Have had an initial trawl for wills but needs further more strategic research. Nothing much in Ancestry or Find My Past.
Many thanks again. Craig

About the Lane family. There is a page for Glendon on Wikipedia.

Quoting this,  "one of the early owners of Glendon Hall, Sir William Lane, unexpectedly left his wife, Dame Margaret, in the middle of the night and thundered off on horseback on a mysterious assignation".  My research indicates the 17th century. I am interested in identifying him. Any comment  appreciated.
