Relatives of John Joseph Sunderland (b1927 Wexford)

Hi all

I am trying to trace my family tree.

I've got a bit stuck on my grandad (dad's dad) as I do not know any of his siblings or his parents names.

His name was John Joseph Sunderland and I was told that he was born in Wexford in 1927. He came to London and married Mary O'Hora in 1952. Mary was from Co Mayo in Ireland.

Unfortunately both Mary and John have passed now John 1998 and Mary in 2009 and I wish I had spoken to them about our ancestry when they were still with us.

Any help would be great. Thank you!

If you know that they married in 1952, and if you have the marriage certificate, can you tell us the name of your grandfather's father and his occupation.

The 1901/1911 censuses can then be checked.

Thanks for replying.

I don't have the marriage certificate. I'm using one of the genealogy websites and for my nan it says she married in 1952 and that was the year before my dad was born, so I know it's right.

I expect I am going to have to buy a copy of the certificate, I don't mean to sound cheap I just don't have the cash right now.

I just wondered if there were any other ways of finding out.

Hi

If you can find the name of John Joseph’s father, you can search the government website www.irishgenealogy.ie yourself, to see whether you find the Death of John Joseph’s father.  The Informant on that Death may well be another sibling, etc allowing you to trace back further.
Also the address listed will give you a location from which to widen your search.

My dad never talked about his grandparents and he died in 1999.
