1841 - Gwyddelwern Village
Piece: 14280, Book: 15 Folio: 5, Page number: 2

Looks like same address as 1851, Gwen Roberts 45, next door down is John Pierce age 20. Do you have him in 1841?

Coincidence if not same John. Ages can be rounded down in 1841.

Also the Goodman may come from the Jones side as there is a burial Corwen (from memory) 1849 of a Simon Goodman Jones (an infant)
(FreeREG)
May have been reg as plain Simon Jones 1849 mmn Edwards and death reg the same.

Wonder if a burial can be located for Gwen Roberts, it may name family if lucky?

Added possible in 1868 in area, but no info, also cannot locate memorial in St Beuno, but does not mean not there.

Added: possible marriage 1834 in area to David Roberts? Cannot locate a death  for David in area.

Thanks Cas and Trish.

Gwen Davies looks like the mother of John Pierce B 1818. Thanks for that and I will investigate further.

As for John Senior so far nothing found.

There is this one but he is a baseborn child

John Pirce
Baptism Date:   19 May 1818
Baptism Place:   Gwyddelwern, Merionethshire, Wales
Father:   John Pirce
Mother:   Gwen Davies
Page number:   9

1851 he is in household of Gwen Roberts, widow, as lodger, with Richard Goodman Pierce, so it is him. Maybe a connection?

Wife Amelia (spelt Pearce) 1851 is with a Jones family with children Henry & Harriet

Take a look see what you think, there is info which parish both parents are from.

Cas

This is interesting as Harriet his daughter died at 11months old and for some reason she is named only as "Harriet" on the headstone in St Beuno with no surname. The headstone lies next to John and Amelias headstone.... I can see online there are references to a Harriet Roberts also. Seems to be more to the story

These are where the parish records are held

https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MER/MER_PR

I think maybe saying his father was parish clerk could be to save face or maybe he did not know is occ when he married?

If your visiting maybe the parish register would be interesting.

Welcome to Wales, enjoy your stay.

1841 John (1818) is a Shoe Maker so if became a Parish Clerk it was later than that.

https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Parish_Administration_in_England_and_Wales

If you scroll down to Parish Clerk there is some interesting info including;

Much of the work of the parish was carried out for a small salary by the Parish Clerk, an office held for life and commonly passed from father to son.***

I really hope visiting and looking at Parish Records may solve your problem.

Trish :)
