Attridges of Drishane South West County Cork outside Skibbereen
« on: Tuesday 04 October 22 00:25 BST (UK) »
I have Attridges in my family tree. William Driscoll marries Anne Attridge. They come from a townland close to the Atlantic Ocean. They are my great great grandparents. Their daughter Mary Driscoll was my great grandmother . She had married Patrick Hegarty and they were parents to Ellen Hegarty ,my grandmother born 1877. She married Peter Bohane and my Mother was the one from youngest born in 1918.
Attridge is not an Irish name. I believe their ancestors may have come to Ireland with the Cromwellian settlements. I have recently returned from Skibbereen the nearest town where I understand the last two Attridges ,a brother and sister, have recently died.
I understand that 44% of Attridges in the UK come from an area in Essex.
Is there any one who has anything to add to my information please ?
I can get back to early 1800 in Ireland but it’s almost impossible to go any earlier.
I’d be very grateful for any suggestions on where to go next.  Thank you.

Thank you !
It’s so great when those on here go out of their way to help.
I wish I’d been old enough to meet Mary. My cousin still has here linen bonnet trimmed with lace !
We think she must have been born just before the famine. I do know my mother ,born 1918,attended her funeral. It was listed in the newspaper with all the family listed !! That was a goldmine !
Again many thanks.✨🌟✨
