Murphy of Sydney
« on: Tuesday 04 October 22 12:17 BST (UK) »
Hi all.
Just wondering if anyone can see any more information on the following family. I am thinking of ordering certificates but hoping to clarify before needing to do so.

I found a Michael Murphy who died in 1894, buried in Waverley Cemetery. Newspaper notice reveals address as 239 Bourke St, Darlinghurst. Registration has Laurence and Mary as parents. I am researching a couple of this name and am wondering if this is their son. Might not be, which is why I am after more info.

Buried with him at Waverley is son Michael who died in 1885. Wife Fanny purchased the plot.

Could be Fanny Kichington who married a Michael Murphy in Sydney also in 1885.

Looking for further details on these 3. I can't see any more children for Fanny and Michael.

If you are researching Laurence and Mary MURPHY, what other information do you have about them, children, deaths etc? RootsChatters may be able to help.  :)

Ah ok. It looks like I might have made some assumptions here without checking facts first. The one at Rookwood could well be him. The family were Catholic I know.

I wonder if anyone is buried with him?

I suggest that you send a email to the cemetery, they might be able to assist.

I thought that their on line search facility used to give details of others buried in the same grave, looks like the site has been upgraded and these details are no longer recorded.

Hi. Thanks for reply.
I actually contacted them earlier today. Found out that nobody else is buried with him and a Michael Murphy was the purchaser. Could have been himself or a relative of same name.
Will look at getting the certificate now.
I am actually hunting his mother as she was a Mary Murphy. With very scant details to go on it is like finding a needle in a haystack.
As I know her husband ended up Rookwood but she is not buried with him I am thinking she might have also been interred at Rookwood. I have printed off the huge list of Mary Murphy's. Gone through and was able to eliminate more than half based on age, and some based on the headstone information. This left me with a more manageable list. I will now use ancestry and other sources of information to try and narrow this further before attempting to order certificates trying to find her.
