Hi

James Doyle was KIA on 27 May 1918 and has no known grave. A colleague of mine believes he may have traced his resting place to a grave on the Aisne marked simply as an 'Unknown Artillery Officer'. He is trying to gather as much information as possible and is looking specifically for  an obituary or photo, or indeed anything else!! We know from his entry on the CWGC website that the address given to them was 6 New Cottages, Dalick Street, Drogheda, further research shows that his wife was Margaret Anne (Possible maiden name Rourke and possible marriage in Woolwich in last quarter of 1897) and that they were both born in India.

Would be grateful for any help.

Regards

Ian Chambers

Excellent find, Shaun.
By the way, in case the OP needs a translation of FCO, it's Fire Control Officer - literally the person who controls the rate of fire of the guns in the battery (or sometimes a half battery), usually based on fire control orders sent by the Forward Observation Officer (FOO) who is in a position observing the area to be targetted by the guns, so a good distance in front of the gun line.

Hi Shaun

That is brilliant, thank you very much, I'm sure my colleague will be very grateful for this.
Thanks also to Andy for the FCO explanation.
