William John Tabb
« on: Thursday 06 October 22 18:43 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to find out some information about William John Tabb who was born 1917 in Baltimore, parents Ethel and William. He died in Italy in WW2. I know his body was eventually repatriated to the USA, but don't know when this was done. He has 1945 as his death date on his grave, but I believe it took some time to get his body home. If anyone has access to military records and could find out when he came home it would be appreciated.
Thank you.

He was originally interred in Italy and was later repatriated here on March 5, 1949.

It appears his body was returned home in Feb 1949 and reburied early March 1949.

Thanks everyone, that's what I needed. There is a family photo of a coffin draped with the flag and a photo on top of a young man dated 1949. We weren't sure who this was. This now tallies perfectly with the date of the repatriation of William, so it solves the mystery.
Thanks again.
